Our Psychology Academic Advising Interns are available for walk-ins and via email to answer general students’ questions regarding a change of major to Psychology, course scheduling, and registration, and provide peer mentorship. For any detailed advising needs regarding petitions, degree checks, or advising-related registration holds, please meet with your assigned academic advisor.

Karen is a fourth-year student pursuing a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Dance. Some of her interests and hobbies include fashion, fitness, food, dancing, and photography. About this Position

The Psychology Academic Advising Intern supports academic advisors by serving as a liaison between students and professional advising staff. This position also serves as the primary support for and implementation of the Psychology Department Peer Mentorship program.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Serve as a resource to current undergraduate psychology majors
  • Establish and maintain rapport with students/mentees
  • Support academic advising staff during events including Highlander orientation, recruitment events, and workshops
  • Respond to general student emails and maintain social media platforms
  • Hold weekly walk-in hours for student meetings
  • Acquaint students with other resources in the department and on campus
  • Assist with supporting and developing the Psychology Department Peer Mentorship program

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be a Psychology major in at least sophomore status with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Ability to commit to 10 hours per week for one calendar year (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring)
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with professional advising staff
  • Demonstrate ability as a team player: involvement in on or off-campus activities (i.e., leadership, research, service, employment)
  • Ability to multitask while being self-motivated
  • Must use active listening and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to provide support to students
