Graduate Preparatory Programs

  • California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP): A program that encourages NSF-declared underrepresented students in the STEM fields to successfully complete undergraduate science degrees and further pursue their studies at the graduate and professional level.
  • Council on Undergraduate Research: Supports and promotes high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship..
  • Institute for Broadening Participation Programs and professional development resources for current and prospective undergraduate students–research experiences for undergraduates (REU), scholarships, and travel and research opportunities are made available by this platform.
  • McNair Scholars Program: Designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are either first-generation college students with financial need, or members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential.
  • Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program: A two-year program at UC Riverside that provides financial support, research mentorship, and assistance with graduate school applications.
  • Mentoring Summer Research Internship Program (MSRIP): An eight-week summer research program designed for rising juniors, seniors(and some rising masters students) from educationally and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Participants work under the supervision of a faculty mentor on the mentor’s research project.
  • Native American Political Leadership Program: Held at George Washington University. Provides academic scholarship with funding from AT&T for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students to experience an introduction to the nation’s capital and opportunities to study the public policy decision-making process, governmental functions, and politics in a democratic society.
  • UC Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees (UC LEADS): A two-year program designed to identify educationally and/or economically disadvantaged undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), who will conceivably complete doctorate degrees. Sophomore students (or juniors planning on staying a complete fifth year) are encouraged to apply.
  • AP-LS Access Path to Psychology and Law Experience: Increase diversity within psychology and law by increasing the pipeline of competitive graduate school applicants from groups that currently are underrepresented in the field, including racial and ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, LGBT individuals and physically disabled students. AP is designed to encourage faculty members to recruit students from underrepresented groups into their research labs. It provides financial support for the students to obtain meaningful research experience and attend the AP-LS conference as well as other opportunities for mentoring and development.
